Services and Treatments Offered at Floyd Cancer Center

Treatments

Baptist Health is known for being one of the most advanced adult cancer programs in the region for quality of care, outcomes and patient safety. The Cancer Care Center at Baptist Health Floyd offers extensive diagnostic and treatment options for a wide range of cancers, even complex and rare conditions. Cancer can be treated in a variety of ways, including:

Radiation

Small doses of high-energy radiation can be effective in killing certain types of cancer cells and in relieving cancer symptoms, including pain, pressure and bleeding. The number of radiation treatments depends upon the type of cancer. At the Cancer Care Center at Baptist Health Floyd, we offer:

Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)

Delivers high doses of radiation, through several beams of various intensities aimed at different angles, to precisely target tumors.

Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT)

Uses imaging techniques during therapy to more precisely and accurately treat tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)

Uses advanced technology to manipulate beams of radiation to conform to the shape of a tumor.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of special drugs that kill cancer cells. Depending on the type of cancer, chemotherapy can be given as a pill, applied to the skin or injected as an infusion through an IV. It may also be given before surgery to shrink a tumor, after surgery to kill remaining cancer cells, or to help reduce symptoms of cancer.

Surgery

Some cancers are best treated with surgery to remove a tumor and surrounding tissue. At Baptist Health, we offer innovative surgical options performed by distinguished specialists, including minimally invasive procedures for shorter hospital stays and highly precise robot-assisted surgery.

Hormonal therapy

Hormonal therapy can treat cancers that use certain hormones to grow or spread. This therapy slows or stops the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors by blocking the body’s production of hormones or interfering with the effects of hormones on these tumors.

Immunotherapy

Substances made by the body or in a laboratory can be given to strengthen the immune system to help fight certain cancers.

Clinical trials

Through the Baptist Health Cancer Research Network, we are able to help patients access promising new treatments that, in most cases, are not available outside of the trial.

Hematology treatments

These therapies specifically treat blood cancers and associated disorders.
