What to Expect: Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids.
Blepharoplasty Candidate
- You’re physically healthy
- You don’t smoke
- You have a positive outlook with realistic goals
- You don’t have any serious eye conditions
- You’re experiencing functional problems or impaired vision
- Loose or sagging eyelid skin
The Consultation
During your blepharoplasty consultation, be prepared to discuss:
- Why you want the surgery, your expectations, and desired outcomes
- Medical conditions, drug allergies, and medical treatments
- Use of current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco, and drug use
- Previous surgeries
- Photos
The Recovery
- You will have bruising and swelling around the eyes
- Irritation and dry eyes are possible
- You will receive oral medications and ointments for pain and swelling after the surgery
- Cold compresses will help to decrease swelling
Tips for Healing
- It’s important to avoid the sun while healing from your blepharoplasty surgery
- Wear sunglasses while outside until your healing process is complete
- Continue with follow up visits and instructions from your plastic surgeon
