Standardization at Baptist Health
Setting a High Standard in Healthcare Reliability
Baptist Health is dedicated to being a High Reliability Organization. In healthcare, high reliability organizations are those that consistently deliver quality care with low levels of defect or error. This has a direct impact on you, our patient, because organizations with this mindset are leaders in patient safety.
The key to high reliability is standardized measures and processes. Baptist Health actively pursues ongoing standardization in a number of ways:
An uncompromising commitment to patient safety across locations. The Baptist Health Brand Promise reflects our organizational aspirations at the highest level: “We treat everyone how we would want to be treated, every time, at every Baptist Health location.”
Evidence-based care. Baptist Health hospitals follow best-practice guidelines (where they exist and as appropriate) for the care and treatment of patients.
EPIC Uniform Order Sets. Baptist Health deploys an advanced health-records system called EPIC. One feature of EPIC is order sets, or standardized evidence-based protocols for treating medical conditions. Baptist Health medical staff worked closely with EPIC to create these order sets. By using these order sets, patients can feel confident that their treatment team is providing current and consistent treatment.
Standardized process improvements. In order to best support patient safety, Baptist Health utilizes several process-improvement methods, known collectively as Process Excellence. These methods, including Six Sigma, Lean, and Change Management, introduce positive change with a higher degree of accuracy than relying on hunches or guesswork.
