Katelyn Arvin, LPCC, NCC:
The vision behind the Thrive Center at Baptist Health Richmond is to offer a comprehensive and holistic model to behavioral healthcare.
Sarah Bralick, MSW:
On our multidisciplinary team, we have a multitude of different professionals. We have nursing staff. We have a master's level therapist. We have a recreational therapist and a social worker, and we all work alongside our psychiatrist. Everyone gets to use their scope of practice to identify different strengths and weaknesses within patients that we can use for further planning and continuation of care during their stay.
Katelyn Arvin, LPCC, NCC:
Continuity of care is so important. We invite folks from our ambulatory care clinic to establish genuine relationships with folks in the inpatient setting when we are planning for discharge and planning forward for treatment. When you come to the clinic, chances are you might recognize a familiar face and that makes accessing care at such a vulnerable time a little bit easier.
Sarah Bralick, MSW:
To facilitate more collaboration, the social worker is able to identify different needs within the community. They can establish discharge planning upon completion of a stay at the Thrive unit for step-down services.
Katelyn Arvin, LPCC, NCC:
When we created spaces like our clinical decision-making unit, we're prioritizing mental healthcare in the emergency department and recognizing that it's OK not to be OK. Your mental health crisis and emergency is just as important and just as valid as a medical emergency.
