Vickie Frisby, RN:
Here at Baptist Health Richmond on the Mother and Baby Care unit, supported by Kosair for Kids, we provide a multitude of services for our expectant moms. Our team includes physicians and nurses prepared to provide services such as prenatal planning, breastfeeding support, and postpartum depression support. We work together with their obstetrician and our behavioral support team to ensure they feel supported when they go home and understand that some of what they experience is normal. We'll provide support for treatment, if needed, once they have delivered the baby.
Our department has several nurses who have achieved lactation counselor certification. They are here to provide support to the mom after delivery, make her journey as a breastfeeding mom successful, and continue supporting her once she goes home. We are here for them; they can come back in for a visit. Marty, one of our lead counselors, offers that service and weighs the baby to ensure the infant is receiving enough nutrition.
It is important that we offer these services here at Baptist Health Richmond. We can have important conversations when a mom wants to get pregnant, guide her through prenatal care, and ensure a safe delivery and transition home for her and her baby.
