Sara Campbell, MS, LGC:
At Baptist Health, we've established a cancer risk evaluation initiative where individuals scheduled for a mammogram are given a questionnaire. This form includes various questions regarding their personal medical history and family background.
Debbie Barnes:
I have a hereditary history of breast cancer. My eldest sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and unfortunately passed away at 47. Before my screening mammogram, I completed a survey that indicated I should undergo testing for a particular gene.
Sara Campbell, MS, LGC:
When the lifetime probability of developing breast cancer reaches 20% or higher, further follow-up actions may be necessary.
Amanda Ward:
My test results were also positive, and I consult with a cancer risk management specialist. I undergo a screening mammogram every six months and also have a breast MRI biannually.
Sara Campbell, MS, LGC:
Baptist Health is a leader in risk evaluation. By proactively offering risk assessments to patients who are scheduled for mammograms, we can more effectively identify those at high risk. This ensures that patients are thoroughly informed about their potential risks, enabling them to make educated choices regarding screening, prevention, and ultimately aiming for better outcomes in cancer treatment.
