Learn how to prevent falls at August 13 event

Baptist Health Hardin. August 05, 2024

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Aug. 5, 2024) – Learning how to prevent falls – including the importance of good balance and posture -- will be key elements of Baptist Health Hardin’s 100 Days of Service event on Aug. 13.

Falls prevention education will be the focus for the August meeting of Baptist Health Hardin’s monthly stroke and brain injury support.

The support group is open to anyone in the community and may be of special interest to people who have experienced a stroke and are having difficulty with balance or falls. Family and caregivers are welcome.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5 – 7 p.m. in the community room at Swope Toyota, located at 1085 N. Dixie Hwy. in Elizabethtown. The event is free, and no registration is required.

“Falls prevention is a very important issue for older adults, and it is especially important for those who have had strokes because strokes can affect the sense of balance and reaction time,” said Rosa Vittitoe, the hospital’s stroke coordinator.  “Learning to maintain good balance can prevent fractures, while improved posture can help with back pain. Exercises that improve balance can also help prevent falls.”

In 2024, Baptist Health celebrates its 100th anniversary, and is marking each month with a health-related “gift” to its communities.  In July, Baptist Health Hardin leaders and staff donated over 50 hours of volunteer service to clean and perform general maintenance at North Park Elementary School in Radcliff.

The original Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville opened its doors in November 1924 following years of rallying community support and fundraising. Baptist Health has since expanded to nine hospitals and more than 2,700 licensed beds, reaching nearly 75 percent of Kentucky residents and a wide swath of southern Indiana.
