[Paducah, KY] Dec. 4, 2024 - Baptist Health Floyd has reached another milestone in its ongoing $65 million construction project that began in the spring of 2022.

A major part of that project was the construction of seven new state-of-the-art operating rooms which officially opened Dec. 4, 2024. The hospital will now have 10 operating rooms plus a hybrid room and two cardiovascular operating rooms.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Dec. 3.

The new rooms are large enough to house the hospital’s robotics program. During fiscal year 2024, Baptist Health Floyd surgeons performed 1,107 daVinci robot cases (for general surgeries), 129 Globus spine cases and 177 robotic total joints. In total, Baptist Health Floyd performs an average of 12,000 surgeries each year.

“Over the last couple of years, we have gone from nothing to a robust robotic program with a total of eight different robots here at Baptist Health Floyd,” said Baptist Health Floyd President Mike Schroyer. “We need rooms like this to be able to continue with that program and expand as we go forward.”

It has been a busy two construction years at the hospital.

In June Baptist Health Floyd unveiled its new 32-bed CVU unit in an area previously used for storage.

In December 2023, a new surgical waiting area at the Green Valley Road entrance opened which also features 23 pre/post-op bays, 10 post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays, four pain bays and three consult rooms.

Baptist Health Floyd is three years into its five-year strategic plan.
