We grew up together. We've known each other since we were about two.
- [Duane]
We were best of friends.
- We graduated in May of '80, got married by August of '81. Our oldest boy is Jason, and then we've got Jacob under him, and then Judith, and 17 years later, Dylan came along.
- You could have knocked me over with a feather. Our 40 years of marriage this year, we've always had kids in our life, they've always been a part of it.

Having spoken to colleagues who have also been in practice in different parts of the United States, there's universal opinion that this part of Kentucky is considered basically the hotbed of the United States for vascular disease, having the most modern state-of-the-art equipment and good, qualified, well-trained cardiologists makes all the difference in the world.
- Both our older sons are general contractors. We were working on some barns on a Thoroughbred horse farm, and all of a sudden, I just felt a tightness in my chest. And fortunately, it passed, and I came home that night and mowed the yard, and went around, got the weed eater and I was out front, down by the road, and cranked on the weed eater about three times and it hit me again. And this time, it was more severe and it was down both arms.

- The Baptist Heart Program, particularly in the Eastern Region offers state-of-the-art heart care. Here in Richmond, we offer both coronary and peripheral interventions for blocked arteries to the heart as well as the limb and extremity arteries.
- Dr. Breeding performed the heart cath and they found two blockages in my descending artery. The realization of where I was at, what was going on kind of hit me. Fortunately, there was a nurse that was paying close attention to me because big tears kind of rolled out of my eyes, and she came over and put her hand on top of my head and she said, "Are you okay?"
And I said, "Yeah, I'm fine." And she said, "It's all going fine, you'll see."
- You know, the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," to get someone over, you know, a serious heart illness, it takes a multidisciplinary approach that's integrated, you know, and I think we have that here.
- Well, I immediately felt better. I felt like I had more energy. My experience with Baptist Health Richmond was absolutely phenomenal. It gives me new life because I realized that I try to play a very important part in the life of my kids, and my grandkids, as well as Juanita.
To know you're 13 minutes away from somebody that can save your life and your child's life is, I mean, it's priceless. You can't put a price tag on it.
- With this it's just...how special Duane is to me, and that in the long scheme of things, at the end of the day when the kids are all grown, I want us to have that time together, you know, we want to spend that time together and...
