Athletic Trainer Coverage
Sometimes the best sports injury prevention and care doesn’t happen at a clinic or therapy gym – it happens right where your team practices and plays. Since 2000, Baptist Health’s athletic trainers have been providing on-site coverage to help athletes in the Louisville, La Grange, Southern Indiana (Floyd) and Hardin areas safely participate in their favorite sports. Our athletic trainers also provide emergency care for all athletes at sites and events we cover, specializing in concussion recognition and diagnosis, heat related illnesses, spinal cord injuries, and cardiac emergencies.
We have experience with athletes of all ages and skill levels. From youth football leagues, high school athletics, national junior golf, and college athletics to being the original provider for our community’s first professional soccer teams. While also being the health care provider for USA Gymnastics and USA Cycling in Louisville, we are the trusted source for athletic trainer coverage.

Our athletic trainers have varying backgrounds from high school athletics and NCAA Division I college athletics to professional athletics, including professional soccer, gymnastics, and Major League Baseball. Our commitment is to maintain the highest standards in treating your athletes.

Athletic Training Services We Provide
Our athletic trainers provide coverage of practices and games so your team can focus on having a great season. Our top priorities are providing emergency care and preventing injuries. When injuries do happen, we help minimize time lost while working with your athlete on a rehab path and return to play, paving the way for a safe return to sport.
Our approach to athletic training includes:
- Screening athletes to determine their risk for injury: We help athletes get off to a great season by identifying potential risk factors and developing to mitigate these factors. For example, we help recognize and put a plan of action for cardiac events and heat illness risk factors. We also look at injury history to develop plans to prevent these injuries from recurrence and reduce the risk of more serious injuries.
- Education: We partner with parents, coaches, administrators, and sports league organizers to create safe playing environments through ongoing education. Topics include nutrition, hydration, and heat acclimatization, and the importance of seeing a sports medicine physician for injury care. We also work with the schools to create a comprehensive emergency action plan (EAP) for athletic events that includes venue-specific EAPs and emergency simulations with coaches and administrators.
- Immediate injury evaluation: When injuries do occur, our ATs are on-site providing on-field evaluations to determine the severity of the injury and if it is safe for the athlete to return to sport. In the event it is not safe for the athlete to return to sport our ATs work in conjunction with Baptist Health sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons to assure that your athlete is receiving the treatment and level of care required.
- Emergency care: We provide emergency care for serious injuries including but not limited to concussions, sudden cardiac arrest, heat stroke, and emergent musculoskeletal injuries. In the event of a medical emergency we activate the EAP, provide immediate lifesaving interventions, and work with EMS for transport of your athlete to receive the appropriate level of treatment and care.
- Safe return to sport: We work with your athlete and oversee their injuries from initial diagnosis through the treatment and rehabilitation process, and provide an individualized return to play so your athlete will be able to return to the sport they love safely and as quickly as possible. We also provide continual care for your athlete’s injuries to help prevent reinjury.
