Pelvic floor physical therapy is a type of therapy
where we specialize in a group of specific muscles

called the pelvic floor muscles,
and those muscles lie at the bottom of the pelvis.

They are responsible for bowel, bladder,
and sexual function,

and so we treat a variety of conditions,
including issues with incontinence,

difficulty voiding bowel and bladder.

We also treat pain in the pelvic area,
so I also treat women during pregnancy and postpartum.

Seeing a pelvic floor therapist for these issues can
really affect a patient's quality of life.

A lot of patients who are coming in with pain or
bladder and bowel dysfunction,

their lives have been really interrupted,
or maybe they're experiencing some issues related

to embarrassment or just not able to participate
in their lives the way that they would want to.

So, working with a therapist, whether that includes,
you know, manual therapy, exercises, strengthening,

a variety of things that we can do,
the ultimate goal is to help patients get back

to functioning as optimally as possible in their lives.

So, I feel really fortunate to be here with Baptist
in providing this service for not just Lexington

but, really, a large area in Kentucky.
