Right now, most Kentuckians are
considered overweight or obese.

This is problematic because people have a lot
of medical problems related to being too heavy.

Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
sleep apnea, infertility, a host of problems.

Those fad diets that we hear about, they don't
work because people have too much hunger,

they have too many cravings, and it's
not a consistent lifestyle change.

What we want to do with medical weight loss and with
surgical weight loss is help people stick with a

healthier lifestyle by modifying their
hunger, modifying their cravings,

and making it hard for them to overeat.

Surgical weight loss is just what it sounds like.

We do a surgery to alter the GI tract to help people
lose weight, but it's more than just making the stomach

smaller so you can't eat as much.

We also see profound changes in GI hormones that modify
hunger and cravings and make it very different from the

anatomy that we had before.

We're very proud that Baptist Health Lexington has the
first center of excellence medical weight loss center

in the state of Kentucky.

And this is fantastic for patients because now,
we're able to offer a comprehensive experience.

And we want to give patients the support
they need to have life-long results.

And so, as long as patients keep coming back to see us,
we can support them and make sure that they're on a

good diet, make sure that they're not
having hunger, make sure they're exercising.

And when patients do this, they do fantastic.

We also see profound changes in GI hormones that modify hunger and cravings and make it very different from the anatomy that we had before.

Every patient benefits from education, so we teach patients what to eat, how to eat, when to eat. We will slowly get patients back up to a regular diet so they are eating regular-type foods — just a lot less — but making much better choices. We want to give patients the support they need to have lifelong results.

As long as patients keep coming back to see us, we can support them, make sure that they're on a good diet, make sure they're not having hunger, and make sure they're exercising. When patients do this, they do fantastic.
