Elizabeth Rooney, RN:
The clinical decision unit is a separate space that is embedded within the emergency department here
at Baptist Health Richmond.
This space is dedicated to those who are seeking emergency behavioral health services.
We knew that we needed to create a space that was safe and provided privacy and with a low stimulus environment, kind of, away from the hustle and bustle of the emergency department.
We have licensed therapists available 24/7 to provide crisis consultations, and they will conduct a detailed assessment which will allow them to provide treatment recommendations and make referrals to the most appropriate level of care. Adult patients who may need a higher level of care, they will have access to the Thrive Center.
The Thrive Center is our inpatient unit. It is an 11-bed unit that will provide 24/7 nursing care. Patients will receive individual group and recreational therapies and medication management. So, our goal is crisis stabilization and then once they're stable and safe for discharge, we want to set them up with our outpatient services that we offer here so that they're getting that continuity of care.
Our priority at Baptist Health Richmond is to be able to provide the full spectrum of care so that no one has to leave the Madison County area to access that care.
