The team approach to Acute Inpatient Rehab in Corbin, KY, HealthTalks Transcript:
Ray Hays, MD:
Inpatient rehab is for patients who have had either injuries or prolonged illness that has caused an issue with their functionality. What we do in inpatient rehab is bring a patient down for intensive physical [and] occupational therapy, sometimes speech therapy, to try to help the patient regain their function so they can go back to some normalcy in life.
Tony Thorpe:
I was diagnosed with septic MRSA throughout my body, and after I went through all the antibiotic treatments to take care of the MRSA, I was in bed for quite some time. When you're in bed that long, you lose everything. I had to go back to rehab to learn how to walk and actually learn how to do everything.
Ray Hays, MD:
When we have the patient in our facility, we spend three hours a day, five days a week doing physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.
Tony Thorpe:
It was tough. I'm telling you, it's tough. It's not only physically tough, but it's mentally tough. This place really got me going because they really pushed me and they got me motivated and they were extremely caring.
Ray Hays, MD:
Having this facility, where we can see our neighbors come in who have lost function and be able to regain that back, is gratifying.
Tony Thorpe:
Baptist Health Corbin took the part of healthcare to an extreme. Everybody there cared, and I appreciate that.
