What is Chemotherapy (Infographic)
Chemotherapy is a used to treat cancer. Cancer cells are fast growing so chemotherapy uses drugs to stop or slow the growth of cancer by targeting cells that grow and divide quickly. As a result, it can help control cancer growth, ease symptoms or cure cancer altogether.
Chemotherapy can be administered in a number of ways:
- Injection
- Intravenous
- Intra-arterial
- Intraperitoneal
- Topical
- Oral
Side Effects of Chemotherapy
Unfortunately, our body naturally has fast-growing cells like blood cells, hair, stomach lining, intestines, skin and bone marrow. That’s where the side effects commonly show up.
- Anemia
- Nausea and vomiting
- Appetite changes
- Hair loss
- Bruising
- Fatigue
- Constipation
