Baptist Health supports literacy with Stuff the Ambulance event
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (March 24, 2025) – On Monday, Baptist Health leaders from around Kentucky participated in a “Stuff the Ambulance” event, which was held as part of the Baptist Health Medical Group Quality & Patient Experience Summit. The event supported “Books Across the Bluegrass,” a statewide campaign dedicated to promoting literacy and providing critical resources to underserved communities.
Hosted at the Hardin County Extension Office, the event brought together approximately 240 of the health system’s managers and directors from across Kentucky, many of whom contributed book donations to help fill an ambulance on loan from Baptist Health Emergency Services. The ambulance served as a central collection point during the summit.
Donated books will benefit both local and international communities. The International Book Project, a Lexington-based nonprofit, will distribute the majority of the collected books within Kentucky to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, and Family Resource Centers. A specially selected collection of medical textbooks (published in 2000 or later) will be sent overseas to support medical personnel in Bosnia.
“We are excited to see leaders from across the state come together to make a meaningful impact,” said Shannon Wright, Baptist Health clinical outcomes coordinator. “This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration and the shared commitment to literacy and education.”
The International Book Project, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been advancing literacy and economic opportunity since 1966. To date, it has shipped nearly 8 million books to 168 countries while continuing to serve communities across Kentucky.
