(PADUCAH, KY) April 3, 2025 — The American College of Cardiology has recognized Baptist Health Paducah for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients who come to an electrophysiology (EP) lab for care. Baptist Health Paducah was awarded Electrophysiology Accreditation based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the EP lab.

Electrophysiology labs provide care for patients with arrythmias and may employ treatments such as cardiac ablation and implantable devices such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

“This recognition reflects the efforts that our staff members and administrators take daily to ensure high quality EP care is available to the members of our community. Baptist Health Paducah is the first and only center in Western Kentucky (and of only three centers in the entire state of Kentucky) to hold this achievement,” said Dr. Vedran Oruc, electrophysiologist and electrophysiology medical director with Baptist Health Paducah. “Patients should feel confident that our hospital is committed to delivering safe, timely and high-quality care focused on patient outcomes.”

Hospitals receiving Electrophysiology Accreditation from the ACC must take part in a multi-faceted clinical process that involves completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care; developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success. Improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing guidelines and standards, and adopting best practices in the precise care of EP lab patients.

Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to better patient education, improved patient outcomes, and more effective and efficient disease control.

“Baptist Health Paducah has demonstrated its commitment to providing Paducah and surrounding areas with excellent heart care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Baptist Health Paducah with Electrophysiology Accreditation.”

The ACC offers U.S. and international hospitals like Baptist Health Paducah access to a comprehensive suite of cardiac accreditation services designed to optimize patient outcomes and improve hospital financial performance. These services are focused on all aspects of cardiac care, including the EP lab.
