Baptist Health Paducah announces students selected for annual Pre Med Academy
PADUCAH, KY (June 12, 2024) - Baptist Health Paducah is excited to announce its eighth annual Pre-Med Academy for college students interested in attending medical school. This year 24 students were selected to participate in the 8-week program.
This year’s students include: Ian Ballard, Barrett Buchanan, Olivia Carroll, Adyson Chambers, Renee Chua, Alyssa Daughrity, Tyler Dew, Elizabeth Dunning, Daniel Higdon, Jayden Hodges, Jeremiah Kay, Illya Khaustov, Kennedy Lamb, Morgan Maleske, Cole Murray, Molly Musselman, Om Patel, Noel Puertollano, Carley Resser, Nathaniel Skinner, Fawwaz Turkmani, Bayler Vessel, Alexandra Whitman and Kaylee Wilson.
This class represents 9 colleges including Georgetown University, Murray State University, Purdue University, Rhodes College, Rollins College, Southern Illinois University, University of Kentucky Western Kentucky University and West Kentucky Community and Technical College.
During the program, students will shadow physicians and other healthcare providers in various hospital including bariatrics, cardiology, emergency, family practice, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology/radiation therapy, pulmonary, podiatry, pediatrics, radiology, rehab services and urology. A unique aspect of this program that many students also look forward to is the opportunity to spend time observing physicians in the operating room during surgery.
The academy is structured to assist students in the development of their future medical careers by giving them valuable experience to share during medical school interviews and assisting them in building meaningful mentoring relationships with healthcare providers.
Pre-Med Academy is a paid program that requires students to work approximately 24-32 hours a week. All current and future applicants must have completed at least one semester of college. Each applicant was also required to provide a transcript of their latest semester of college showing a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher.
