PADUCAH, KY (Feb. 24, 2024) - Many took their health to heart this morning with free screenings offered by Baptist Health Paducah as part of its year-long 100 Days of Service.
The heart health fair drew over 100 people to the W.C. Young Community Center to learn more about their heart health. Over 80 participants received free screenings including cardiac risk assessment, atrial fibrillation, A1C & blood glucose, blood cholesterol and peripheral vascular testing. Based on those results, attendees were then connected with a provider that could help them address those needs.
“Events like this are important to our community to provide access and to remove barriers so people can gain insight into their health in an environment that is more comfortable and welcoming for them,” said Craig Beavers, Baptist Health Paducah Vice President and director of operations. “I was thrilled with turnout for the event. Any time we can touch anyone, any number of people, or raise awareness and get them connected to the care they need; that is a success in my book.”
Heart disease is the #1 killer in Baptist Health’s service areas across Kentucky and southern Indiana. Tackling heart disease is a top need identified by Baptist Health Paducah in its community health needs assessment.
Baptist Health has long been known as a leader in heart care. One in four open heart surgeries in Kentucky is performed at a Baptist Health hospital. At Baptist Health Paducah, the tradition continues, becoming the first and only hospital in the region to earn HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence, the highest honor from the American College of Cardiology. The Structural heart team at Baptist Health Paducah perform innovative procedures including the minimally invasive valve replacement procedure (TAVR), WATCHMAN FLX™ and MitraClip™.
