Baptist Health Floyd opens new pediatric unit
New Albany, IN (December 10, 2023) - Baptist Health Floyd officials cut the ribbon on a new 10-bed pediatric unit Dec. 11. The unit is located on the second floor of the hospital.
The unit is for patients 18-under and will provide pediatric healthcare providers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dec. 11 was also the first day patients could be admitted to the unit.
“This will be impactful for the community. There is no other place in Southern Indiana for these kids to receive in-patient care,” said Emily Banet, director of Women and Children’s services at the hospital. “The community needs pediatric care. The hospital is trying to grow to accommodate those needs and to be able to better fit what the community is asking of us which is quality neonatal and pediatric care.”
The hospital opened a Level II NICU in April.
Baptist Health Floyd President Mike Schroyer said, "we are honored to provide this new service and look forward to continuing to grow services to meet the needs of the communities we serve."
"As we continue to implement our strategic plan that is based on the feedback from our community, staff and physicians, we are excited to open our new pediatric unit at Baptist Health Floyd," Schroyer said. "We heard loud and clear that parents want a place close to home in southern Indiana for their sick children to receive quality and safe care. While children with critical illnesses will continue to go to Norton's Children's Hospital, we will be able to provide care to those children who need medical and surgical care that falls within a determined level of severity by our trained staff, pediatricians and providers."
