Baptist Health Madisonville to host Nurse Pentathlon on Saturday

 

(Madisonville, Ky.)  May 16, 2019 — The second Nurse Pentathlon will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18, at Baptist Health Madisonville Wellness Park and parking lot.

 

The event celebrates all nurses, including student nurses and retirees. It will began with a parade of nurses through the hospital campus at 8 a.m.

 

In addition, the event has partnered with the ARCH Coalition’s “Spring into Health” wellness fair, which will offer free medical screenings and educational services for community members. It will feature a fun carnival atmosphere with booths, games and emergency service vehicle experiences for kids.

 

Each Baptist nursing unit was encouraged to form a team, which must include a registered nurse, a healthcare provider,  a child 5-12 years old, an adult 50 years or older, and a someone not employed by Baptist Health.

 

The teams are collecting items for various charitable organizations, such as personal hygiene items, socks, canned goods and children’s books. The teams also are raising money to advance nursing education and for professional growth. 

 

Individuals and businesses can sponsor individual nursing units as they compete for a grand prize of grant dollars against other departments. Last year, more than $6,000 was raised for educational grants for nursing staff.

 

“Last year we exceeded our goal and had a great turnout with it being our first Nursing Pentathlon,” said Denise Dunn, Baptist Health Madisonville Chief Nursing Officer. “Everyone who attended had a great time and immediately began strategizing for this year’s event. We are a competitive group so I’m looking forward to seeing how we out do last year.”
