Baptist Health Paducah will offer a lung cancer screening assessment and an interactive photo booth at the Big Boy Toy Expo at the Paducah Expo Center. Expo hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, but the screening will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
Lung cancer is the most common cancer treated at Baptist Health Paducah, as well as the most common cancer in both men and women in the U.S. Lung cancer causes more death than the next three most common cancers (colon, breast, prostate) combined, according to the American Lung Association. The majority of lung cancer cases at Baptist Health Paducah are late stage, so early detection is crucial.
People who visit the Baptist Health booth at the expo can take an assessment to see if they are at risk for lung cancer. Smoking is the leading risk factor for lung cancer, but family history and exposure to radon and other carcinogens in the workplace also can be factors.
As the region’s only nationally-accredited provider of low-dose CT lung scans, the hospital has established an easy-to-remember phone number – 270.575.LUNG (5864) – and assistance from a nurse navigator. People concerned about lung cancer, especially those with a history of smoking, are encouraged to phone for information.
Tickets to the expo will be sold at the door. Admission is $5 for men and free for women and children under 17 years old.
